The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 19(2) of the Education and Adoption Act 2016(1), makes the following Regulations:
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Education and Adoption Act 2016 (Commencement No. 3) Regulations 2017.
2. The following provisions of the Education and Adoption Act 2016 come into force on 11th January 2017:
(a)section 1 (coasting schools) for all remaining purposes;
(b)section 16 (consequential repeals) so far as it repeals provisions of the Apprenticeship, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009(2) and the Education Act 2011(3).

These Regulations are the third commencement regulations made under the Education and Adoption Act 2016 (“the Act”).
These Regulations appoint 11th January 2017 as the day for coming into force of section 1 of the Act for all remaining purposes. 11th January 2017 is also the coming into force date of section 16(a) and (b) of the Act which provides for the repeal of paragraphs 6(2) and (3) and 11 of Schedule 13 to the Apprenticeship, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009 (c.22) and sections 44(3) and 56 of the Education Act 2011 (c.21) as a consequence of amendments made by the Act.
