Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by section 18 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995(1) is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order as follows:
1. This Order may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Categorisation of Registries of Relevant British Possessions) (Amendment) Order 2008 and shall come into force on 4th June 2008.
2. For the Schedule to the Merchant Shipping (Categorisation of Registries of Relevant British Possessions) Order 2003(2) substitute–

This Order is made under section 18 of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995, which enables an Order in Council to establish categories of registry by reference to which registration of ships in the relevant British possessions may be regulated.
The Order substitutes a revised Schedule to the Merchant Shipping (Categorisation of Registries of Relevant British Possessions) Order 2003. The effect of the amendment is to re-classify the registry of the British Virgin Islands from Category 2 to Category 1.
An impact assessment has not been produced for this Order as it has no impact on business, charities or the voluntary sector.
