The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by paragraph 15 of Schedule 9 to the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999(1) and having regard to the definition of “prescribed” in section 167(1) of that Act, makes the following Regulations—
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Asylum Support (Interim Provisions) (Amendment) Regulations 2004 and shall come into force on 4th April 2004.
2. In regulation 2(5) of the Asylum Support (Interim Provisions) Regulations 1999(2), for the words “5th April 2004” there is substituted “4th April 2005”.

These Regulations amend the Asylum Support (Interim Provisions) Regulations 1999.
Regulation 2 amends regulation 2(5) of the 1999 Regulations by extending the “interim period” during which local authorities are required to provide support to asylum seekers or their dependants who appear to be destitute or likely to become destitute. The day prescribed for the ending of the interim period is now 4th April 2005.
