1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the District of Chiltern (Electoral Changes) Order 2002.
(2) This Order shall come into force—
(a)for the purpose of proceedings preliminary or relating to any election to be held on 1st May 2003, on 15th October 2002;
(b)for all other purposes, on 1st May 2003.
2. In this Order—
“district” means the district of Chiltern;
“existing”, in relation to a ward, means the ward as it exists on the date this Order is made;
any reference to the map is a reference to the map marked “Map of the District of Chiltern (Electoral Changes) Order 2002”, of which prints are available for inspection at—
(a)the principal office of the Electoral Commission; and
(b)the offices of Chiltern District Council; and
any reference to a numbered sheet is a reference to the sheet of the map which bears that number.
3.—(1) The existing wards of the district(1) shall be abolished.
(2) The district shall be divided into twenty-five wards which shall bear the names set out in column (1) of the Schedule.
(3) The wards shall comprise the areas described in column (2) of the Schedule by reference to parishes or parish wards or, where an area is not so described, the area designated on the map by reference to the name of the ward and demarcated by red lines; and the number of councillors to be elected for each ward shall be the number specified in respect of the ward in column (3) of the Schedule.
(4) Where a boundary is shown on the map as running along a road, railway line, footway, watercourse or similar geographical feature, it shall be treated as running along the centre line of the feature.
4.—(1) The existing wards of the parish of Amersham shall be abolished.
(2) The parish shall be divided into five parish wards which shall bear the names Amersham Common, Amersham-on-the-Hill, Amersham Town, Little Chalfont and Weedon Hill; the parish wards of Amersham Common, Amersham-on-the-Hill, Amersham Town and Little Chalfont shall comprise the area of the district wards of the same name, and the parish ward of Weedon Hill shall consist of the rest of the parish.
(3) The number of councillors to be elected for each of the Amersham-on-the-Hill, Amersham Town and Little Chalfont parish wards shall be five, for the Amersham Common parish ward shall be three and for the Weedon Hill parish ward shall be two.
5.—(1) The existing wards of the parish of Chalfont St Peter shall be abolished.
(2) The parish shall be divided into four parish wards which shall bear the names Austenwood, Central, Chalfont Common and Gold Hill; the parish wards of Central, Chalfont Common and Gold Hill shall comprise the area of the district wards of the same name, and the Austenwood parish ward shall consist of the rest of the parish.
(3) The number of councillors to be elected for each of the Central and Chalfont Common parish wards shall be five, for the Gold Hill parish ward shall be three and for the Austenwood parish ward shall be two.
6.—(1) The existing wards of the parish of Chesham shall be abolished.
(2) The parish shall be divided into nine parish wards which shall bear the names Asheridge Vale, Hilltop, Lowndes, Newtown, Ridgeway, St Mary's, Townsend, Vale and Waterside; and the wards shall comprise the areas designated on sheet 4 by reference to the name of the ward and demarcated by orange lines.
(3) The number of councillors to be elected for each of the Townsend and Waterside parish wards shall be three, for the Asheridge Vale, Hilltop, Lowndes, Newtown, Ridgeway and Vale parish wards shall be two and for the St Mary’s parish ward shall be one.
7.—(1) The existing wards of the parish of Great Missenden shall be abolished.
(2) The parish shall be divided into three parish wards which shall bear the names Ballinger and South Heath, Great Missenden, and Prestwood and Heath End; the parish wards of Great Missenden, and Prestwood and Heath End shall comprise the area of the district wards of the same name, and the Ballinger and South Heath parish ward shall consist of the rest of the parish.
(3) The number of councillors to be elected for the Prestwood and Heath End parish ward shall be nine, for the Great Missenden parish ward shall be four and for the Ballinger and South Heath parish ward shall be two.
8. Chiltern District Council shall make a print of the map marked “Map of the District of Chiltern (Electoral Changes) Order 2002” available for inspection at its offices by any member of the public at any reasonable time.
9. The Electoral Registration Officer(2) for the district shall make such rearrangement of, or adaptation of, the register of local government electors as may be necessary for the purposes of, and in consequence of this Order.
10. The District of Chiltern (Electoral Arrangements) Order 1975(3) is revoked, save for article 5.
