The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Road Traffic (Vehicle Testing) Act 1999(1), hereby makes the following Order:—
1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Road Traffic (Vehicle Testing) Act 1999 (Commencement No. 1) Order 2001.
(2) In this Order “the 1999 Act” means the Road Traffic (Vehicle Testing) Act 1999.
2.—(1) Section 1(3) of the 1999 Act shall come into force on 1st June 2001 in so far as it relates to the insertion of subsection (6B) in section 45 of the Road Traffic Act 1988.
(2) Section 3 of the 1999 Act shall come into force on 1st June 2001.

This Order commences provisions in the Road Traffic (Vehicle Testing) Act 1999 (“the 1999 Act”).
Article 2 brings into force on 1st June 2001—
(a)section 1(3) of the 1999 Act in so far as it relates to the insertion of a new subsection (6B) in section 45 of the Road Traffic Act 1988. (This provision relates to the maintenance of records of vehicles submitted for examination and the carrying out of and the result of examinations);
(b)section 3 of the 1999 Act which inserts a new section 46A in the Road Traffic Act 1988. (Section 46A relates to the use of records maintained by the Secretary of State (or caused by him to be maintained) under the new section 45(6B) and of records maintained by the Secretary of State in connection with the functions exercisable by him under or by virtue of the Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994.)
