In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by sections 485(a) and 489(1) of the Education Act 1996(1), the Secretary of State for Education and Employment hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation and commencement

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Education (Grants) (Royal Ballet School) Regulations 2000 and shall come into force on 17th March 2000.

Payment of grant

2.  The Secretary of State may on or before 31st March 2000 pay a grant of such amount as he may determine to the governors of the Royal Ballet School of 155 Talgarth Road, Barons Court, London W14 9DE (“the School”) in respect of expenditure to be incurred by them, on, or in connection with, the purchase, building and refurbishment of premises to accommodate the Upper Division of the School at a different site, or in connection with the transfer of that Division of the School to those premises.

Conditions of payment

3.  The payment of grant under these Regulations shall be dependent on the fulfilment of such conditions as may be specified by the Secretary of State.

Requirements to be observed

4.  Where grant is paid under these Regulations the governors of the School shall comply with such requirements (including requirements as to the repayment of grant or the payment to the Secretary of State of other sums representing the value of the premises purchased with the aid of grant or interest on sums due to him) as may be specified by the Secretary of State.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations authorise the Secretary of State to pay on or before 31st March 2000 a grant to the governors of the Royal Ballet School of 155 Talgarth Road, Barons Court, London W14 9DE, in respect of expenditure to be incurred by them in acquiring and transferring to new premises for the Upper Division of the School. Payment is subject to such conditions and requirements as the Secretary of State may specify.
