The Secretary of State for National Heritage and the Secretary of State for Wales, acting jointly in relation to England and Wales in exercise of the powers conferred by section 1(5) and (6) of the Local Authorities (Goods and Services) Act 1970(1) and the Secretary of State for Scotland, in exercise of the powers so conferred in relation to Scotland, hereby make the following Order.
1. The Order may be cited as the Local Authorities (Goods and Services)(Public Bodies) (Sports Councils) Order 1996 and shall come into force on 1st January 1997.
2. Each of the following persons, being persons appearing to the Secretary of State to be exercising functions of a public nature, shall be public bodies for the purposes of the Local Authorities (Goods and Services) Act 1970 in its application to England, Wales and Scotland:
The English Sports Council
The United Kingdom Sports Council
The Scottish Sports Council

Article 2 of this Order designates the English Sports Council, the United Kingdom Sports Council and the Scottish Sports Council (“the Councils”) as public bodies under the Local Authorities (Goods and Services) Act 1970. This enables local authorities to supply certain goods and services to the Councils.
1970 c. 39. The power conferred on the Minister of Housing and Local Government is exercisable by the Secretary of State: S.I. 1970/681.
