2. The following provisions of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 shall come into force on 23rd January 1989:-
(a)section 103 (amendments of the Drug Trafficking Offences Act 1986(1) and Criminal Justice (Scotland) Act 1987(2) to the extent necessary to bring into force the provisions of Schedule 5 (drug trafficking amendments) specified in paragraphs (b) and (c) below; and
(b)paragraphs 2, 3(1), 4 to 11 and 16 & 17 of Schedule 5 (which amend the said Act of 1986 so as to make certain provisions of that Act correspond to provisions of Part VI of the Criminal Justice Act 1988);
(c)Part II of that Schedule (amendments of the Criminal Justice (Scotland) Act 1987);
(d)section 170(2) (repeals) to the extent necessary to bring into force the provisions of Schedule 16 specified in the following paragraph; and
(e)in Schedule 16, the repeals of the following provisions of the Drug Trafficking Offences Act 1986: section 10(1), section 15(5)(b) and (c), in section 17(1), the words from “but” to the end, and in section 38(11), the words “in England and Wales”.
