The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 2(11) and 105(6) of the National Health Service (Scotland) Act 1978((1)), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the National Health Service (Joint Ophthalmic Committees) (Scotland) Revocation Order 1988 and shall come into force on 1st June 1988.
2. The National Health Service (Joint Ophthalmic Committees) (Scotland) Order 1974((2)) is hereby revoked.

This Order abolishes Joint Ophthalmic Committees which were formed to exercise on behalf of groups of Scottish Health Boards certain functions relating to the provision by such Boards of general ophthalmic services under the National Health Service. The functions of those Committees (which relate to the maintenance of ophthalmic lists, and the investigation of complaints against opticians and of excessive prescribing of optical applicances) will consequently revert to individual Health Boards on 1st June 1988.
