We, the Church Commissioners for England, in exercise of the powers conferred on us by section 53(1) of the Pastoral Measure 1983(1) do hereby order as follows:—
1. The amount to be paid to the Redundant Churches Fund by the Church Commissioners during the five year period 1st April 1989 to 31st March 1994 shall not exceed £3,700,000.
2. The amount of the payments which may be made to the said Fund under section 52(1)(a) of the said Measure out of the one-third of the net proceeds of sale and premiums shall not exceed £1,200,000 and such payments shall be applied towards the £3,700,000 referred to in paragraph 1.
3. Subject to paragraph 4 hereof, the balance of the said amount of £3,700,000 shall be paid by way of grants made to the said Fund by the Church Commissioners under section 44(10) of the said Measure out of their General Fund.
4. A payment on account of the said £3,700,00 shall be made to the said Fund only when the Church Commissioners are satisfied that (1) the payment is an appropriate proportion of a specific sum of money needed by the Fund and (2) the balance of that sum will be paid to the Fund out of moneys provided by Parliament.
5. This Order may be cited as the Payments to Redundant Churches Fund Order 1988 and shall come into operation on 1st April 1989.
