The Secretary of State for Transport, on the application of the Corporation of the Trinity House of Deptford Strond (being a person interested in the pilotage of the Lowestoft Pilotage District) and in exercise of powers conferred by section 9 of, and paragraph 3 of Schedule 2 to the Pilotage Act 1983(1) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Lowestoft Pilotage (Amendment) Order 1987, and shall come into force on 18th September 1987.
2. The Lowestoft Pilotage Order, 1921(2), shall have effect as if the following sections were substituted for section 1 and section 3 respectively—
“1. The limits of the Lowestoft Pilotage District (hereinafter referred to as “the Pilotage District”) shall be the waters of Lake Lothing (below Mutford Bridge) and the part of the sea (with all harbours and tidal waters) within the following limits namely—
(a)an imaginary line drawn true east from the coast on the parallel of latitude 52 degs 31.5'N until it reaches longitude 1 degs 50'E;
(b)an imaginary line following the said longitude in a southerly direction until it intersects the next mentioned line; and
(c)an imaginary line drawn true east from the coast on the parallel of latitude 52 degs 24.5'N.”.
“3. Pilotage shall be compulsory within the following limits—
(a)an imaginary line drawn true east from the coast on the parallel of latitude 52 degs 31.5'N until it reaches longitude 1 degs 50'E;
(b)an imaginary line following the said longitude in a southerly direction until it intersects the next mentioned line; and
(c)an imaginary line drawn true east from Gisleham Church (latitude 52 degs 26.1'N, longitude 1 degs 42.1'E).”.

This Order amends the Lowestoft Pilotage Order, 1921. It extends the southerly limit of the pilotage district and provides that pilotage is compulsory only in the original part of the district.
This Order is made in consequence of an application by the Trinity House of Deptford Strond as pilotage authority for the Lowestoft Pilotage District. No objection to the application has been made in accordance with the Pilotage Orders (Applications) Regulations 1980 (S.I. 1980/1163).
