LOCAL GOVERNMENT, ENGLAND AND WALES LONDON GOVERNMENT

The Local Government Reorganisation (Miscellaneous Provision) (No. 6) Order 1986

Made

13th November 1986

Laid before Parliament

13th November 1986

Coming into Operation

14th November 1986

The Secretary of State for the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 101 of the Local Government Act 1985, and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following order:—

Citation and commencement

1.  This order may be cited as the Local Government Reorganisation (Miscellaneous Provision) (No. 6) Order 1986 and shall come into operation on 14th November 1986.

Admission to meetings of residuary bodies

2.  Paragraph 1(h) of the Schedule to the Public Bodies (Admission to Meetings) Act 1960 (bodies having a power to levy a rate within the meaning of the Public Works Loans Act 1875 and not previously mentioned in the paragraph) shall not be construed as referring to a residuary body.

Nicholas Ridley

Secretary of State for the Environment

13th November 1986

EXPLANATORY NOTE

This order makes further provision in consequence of the abolition, by the Local Government Act 1985, of the Greater London Council and the metropolitan county councils.

Article 2 of this order ensures that the Public Bodies (Admission to Meetings) Act 1960 (which requires meetings of the bodies to which it applies to be open to the public, notice of the time and place of any meeting to be given and copies of the agenda to be supplied) is not to be construed as applying to residuary bodies by virtue of paragraph 1(h) of the Schedule (bodies having power to levy a rate within the meaning of the Public Works Loans Act 1875, and not specifically mentioned elsewhere in the Schedule).

The 1960 Act is expressly applied by the Local Government Act 1985 to the other bodies created by that Act.
