Citation and commencement

1.  These Regulations may be cited as The Traffic Signs (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2008 and shall come into operation on 16th May 2008.

Amendments

2.—(1) The Traffic Signs Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1997(1) shall be amended as provided by paragraphs (2) to (5).

(2) In regulation 11 (proportions and form of letters, numerals, symbols and other characters)—

(a)in paragraph (1) for the words “(3) and (5)” there shall be substituted “(3), (5) and (9)”; and

(b)after paragraph (8) there shall be inserted the following paragraph—

(9) Letters and numerals used on a sign shown in diagram 2714 or 2715 shall have the proportions and form shown in Part I of Schedule 13 where those letters and numerals are white and the proportions and form shown in Part II of Schedule 13 where they are black..

(3) In Part I of Schedule 7 (temporary and emergency directional signs) after diagram 2710 there shall be inserted the diagrams specified in the Schedule and the words specified in and under them.

(4) In Schedule 16 (permitted variants)—

(a)in item 6 in column (2) after the words “876” there shall be inserted “, 2713.1”;

(b)in item 9 in column (2) after the words “782.2” there shall be inserted “, 2713.1”; and

(c)in item 11 in column (2) after the words “820.1” there shall be inserted “, 2713.1”.

(5) In Schedule 17 (illumination requirements)—

(a)in item 1 in column (2) after the words “2710” there shall be inserted “, 2713.1”; and

(b)after item 12 there shall be inserted the following items—

14.2714, 2715The parts of the signs coloured other than black or orange shall be reflectorised in accordance with the provisions of regulation 17. The parts of the signs coloured orange may be so illuminated and may be fluorescent..
