BETTING, GAMING AND LOTTERIES

The Department of Health and Social Services, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Article 108(1) of the Betting, Gaming, Lotteries and Amusements (Northern Ireland) Order 1985(1) and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Gaming Machine (Prescribed Licensed Premises) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1998 and shall come into operation on 6th April 1998.
2. The licensed premises within the meaning of the Licensing (Northern Ireland) Order 1996(2) on which a gaming machine may be used for gaming are any part of premises of a kind mentioned in Article 5(1)(a) and (c) of that Order which is used exclusively or mainly for the sale and consumption of intoxicating liquor.
3. The Gaming Machine (Prescribed Licensed Premises) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1989(3) are hereby revoked.

These Regulations prescribe the types of licensed premises, and the parts of those premises, in which gaming machines may be used. The use of gaming machines has been permitted in certain areas of public houses for a number of years and the Regulations extend these provisions to include hotels.
These Regulations revoke the Gaming Machine (Prescribed Licensed Premises) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1989.
