The Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by Article 13 of the Magistrates' Courts (Northern Ireland) Order 1981(1), as extended by sections 10 and 24 of the Child Abduction and Custody Act 1985(2) and all other powers enabling him in that behalf, on the advice of the Magistrates' Courts Rules Committee and after consultation with the Lord Chief Justice, hereby makes the following rules:—
1. These rules may be cited as the Magistrates' Courts (Child Abduction and Custody) (Amendment) Rules (Northern Ireland) 1996 and shall come into operation on 18th March 1996.
2. The Magistrates' Courts (Child Abduction and Custody) Rules (Northern Ireland) 1986(3) shall be amended as follows:
(a)in Rule 2 in the definition of “the High Court” after the words “or the High Court in Northern Ireland” there shall be added the words “or the High Court of Justice of the Isle of Man.”;
(b)in Rule 9, after the words “United Kingdom”, there shall be inserted the words “or the Isle of Man”.

These Rules amend the Magistrates' Courts (Child Abduction and Custody) Rules (Northern Ireland) 1986 [S.R. 1986 No. 219] to insert appropriate references, to the Isle of Man, in consequence of the Child Abduction and Custody Act 1985 (Isle of Man) Order 1994 [S.I. 1994/2799].
