ROAD TRAFFIC AND VEHICLES

To be laid before Parliament under paragraph 3(3) of Schedule 1 to the Northern Ireland Act 1974
Coming into operation
19th February 1996
The Department of the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Article 50(4)(a) of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1981(1) and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Roads (Speed Limit) Order (Northern Ireland) 1996 and shall come into operation on 19th February 1996.
(2) In this Order “the 1981 Order” means the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1981.
2. The rate of speed fixed by Article 50(1) of the 1981 Order shall be increased from 30 miles per hour to 40 miles per hour in relation to the restricted roads specified in Schedule 1.
3. The rate of speed fixed by Article 50(1) of the 1981 Order shall be increased from 30 miles per hour to 50 miles per hour in relation to the restricted roads specified in Schedule 2.
4. The rate of speed fixed by Article 50(1) of the 1981 Order shall be reduced from 40 miles per hour to 30 miles per hour in relation to the restricted roads specified in Schedule 3.
5. The provisions described in Schedule 4 are hereby revoked.

1. Fountain Hill, Route C108, Antrim, from a point approximately 318 metres north-east of its junction with Belfast Road, Route A522, to its junction with Stiles Way.

8. Skeagh Road, Route C309, Kinallen, Dromara, from its junction with Banbridge Road, Route C328, to a point approximately 452 metres north-west of that junction.
9. Hillhead Road, Route C557, Knockcloghrim, Maghera, County Londonderry, from its junction with Quarry Road, Route C550, to a point approximately 515 metres east of that junction.
10. Knockcloghrim Link Road, Route C557, Knockcloghrim, Maghera, County Londonderry, from its junction with Quarry Road, Route C550, to a point approximately 240 metres west of that junction.
11. Lurganagoose Road, Route C550, Knockcloghrim, Maghera, County Londonderry, from its junction with Hillhead Road, Route C557, to a point approximately 200 metres south of that junction.

1. Ballee Road West, Unclassified No. 77, Ballymena, from its junction with Antrim Road, Route A26, to a point approximately 500 metres south-west of that junction.
2. Derry Road, Route B72, Strabane, from a point approximately 728 metres north of its northern junction with Canal Street, to a point approximately 53 metres south of its junction with Barnhill Road, Route A5(T3).

This Order:
(a)increases from 30 miles per hour to 40 miles per hour the speed limit on the restricted roads specified in Schedule 1 (Article 2);
(b)increases from 30 miles per hour to 50 miles per hour the speed limit on the restricted roads specified in Schedule 2 (Article 3);
(c)reduces from 40 miles per hour to 30 miles per hour the speed limit on the restricted roads specified in Schedule 3 (Article 4); and
(d)revokes the provisions described in Schedule 4, which are spent (Article 5).
