1. This Order may be cited as The A63 Liverpool-Leeds-Hull Trunk Road (North & West Yorkshire) (Revocation and Detrunking) Order 2009 and shall come into force on 31st March 2009.
2. In this Order—
(i)all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway;
(ii)“the plan” means the plan numbered HA 10/MP/098 marked “A63 Liverpool-Leeds-Hull Trunk Road (North & West Yorkshire) (Revocation and Detrunking) Order 2009” signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport and deposited at Communities and Local Government, Deposited Document Services, Room F13, Ashdown House, St Leonards on Sea, Hastings, East Sussex, TN37 7GA;
(iii)“principal road” as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is a principal road for the purposes of enactments and instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads and is also classified for the purpose of every other enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State; and
(iv)“the trunk road” means the Liverpool to Hull Trunk Road (A63).
3. The lengths of the trunk road described in the Schedule to this Order shall cease to be trunk roads and shall be classified as principal roads as from the date on which the Secretary of State notifies North Yorkshire County Council and Leeds City Council (who will become the highways authorities for these lengths) that the Order has come into force.
4. The following orders in respect of the trunk road are revoked—
(i)The Liverpool–Leeds–Hull Trunk Road (Hambleton By-Pass) Order 1939;
(ii)The Liverpool–Leeds–Hull Trunk Road (Monk Fryston Diversion) Order 1939;
(iii)The A63 Trunk Road (Osgodby Bypass) Order 2004; and
(iv)The A63 Trunk Road (Barlby Junction to Bridge Farm (Detrunking) Order 2004.

The lengths of the trunk road ceasing to be trunk road are shown by broad black dashes on the plan and are situated from:
1. Boot & Shoe Roundabout (marked “A” on the plan) to A1(M) Junction 42 Western Roundabout at Selby (marked “B” on the plan) and measures approximately 2.8 km in length.
2. A1(M) Junction 42 Eastern Roundabout at Selby (marked “C” on the plan) to A63 Roundabout near Whiny Hagg Lane (marked “D” on the plan) and measures approximately 9.6 km in length.
3. A63 Roundabout near Whinny Hagg Lane (marked “D” on the plan) to A19/A63 Junction at Selby (marked “E” on the plan) and measures approximately 9.25 km in length.
4. A19/A63 Junction at Barlby Crossroads (marked “F” on the plan) to County Boundary (marked “G” on the plan) and measures approximately 8.3 km in length.

The purpose of the Order is to authorise the Secretary of State to remove the trunk road status from the sections of trunk road described in the above schedule. The responsibility for the maintenance of these roads will pass to the local Highway Authorities which are Leeds City Council and North Yorkshire County Council.
This Order also revokes the made Orders for Hambleton (SI 1939/90), Monk Fryston (SI 1939/91), Osgodby (SI 2004/3436) and Barlby Junction to Bridge Farm Detrunking (SI 2004/3435) to ensure that route protection can be formally abandoned and those who would be affected informed of the change.
