These Regulations amend the Motor Cars (Driving Instruction) Regulations 1989.
In consequence of the entry into force of the Road Traffic (Driving Instruction by Disabled Persons) Act 1993, trainee instructors’ licences may be granted to persons with a disability who have already passed some parts of the qualifying examination in order that they may prepare for the remaining, prescribed, parts of that examination. The Regulations prescribe the test of instructional fitness and ability for that purpose.
Secondly, the fees payable in respect of the qualifying examination and the entry of a name on the Register of Approved Driving Instructors are increased from 1st April 1997. The new fees, with the percentage increases and the dates when they were last raised shown in brackets, are:—
Written examination | £50 (No change) |

Instructional ability and fitness test | £62 (3.3%, May 1995) |
