Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into force for specified purposes various provisions of Part II (which concern the arrangements for policing in Scotland) of the Police and Magistrates' Courts Act 1994 and related repeals.

Articles 2 and 3 of, and Schedules 1 and 2 to, this Order bring into force on 1st April 1995 and 1st April 1996 respectively the provisions listed in each Schedule subject to any restriction of purpose specified.

Article 4 makes transitional provision in relation to the abolition of the ranks of deputy chief constable and chief superintendent.
