Payments to Redundant Churches Fund Order 1993

We, the Church Commissioners for England, in exercise of the powers conferred on us by section 53(1) of the Pastoral Measure 1983(1) do hereby order as follows:—

1.  The amount to be paid to the Redundant Churches Fund by the Church Commissioners during the five year period 1 April 1994 to 31 March 1999 shall not exceed £3,100,000.

2.  The amount of the payments which may be made to the said Fund under section 52(1)(a) of the said Measure out of the one-third of the net proceeds of sale and premiums shall not exceed £2,500,000 and such payments shall be applied towards the £3,100,000 referred to in paragraph 1.

3.  Subject to paragraph 4 hereof, the balance of the said amount of £3,100,000 shall be paid by way of grants made to the said Fund by the Church Commissioers under section 44(10) of the said Measure out of their General Fund.

4.  A payment on account of the said £3,100,000 shall be made to the said Fund only when the Church Commissioners are satisfied that (1) the payment is an appropriate proportion of a specific sum of money needed by the Fund and (2) the balance of that sum will be paid to the Fund out of moneys provided by Parliament.

5.  So far as moneys available for allocation under section 52(1)(b) of the said Measure shall on the 31 March 1994 exceed the sum of £250,000 they shall be paid to the said Fund in addition to the sum of £1,200,000 specified in the Payments to Redundant Churches Fund Order 1988(2).

6.  This Order may be cited as the Payments to Redundant Churches Fund Order 1993 and shall come into force, on the thirty-first day of March 1994.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order provides that for the period 1st April 1994 to 31st March 1999 sums up to a total of £3,100,000 may be paid to the Redundant Churches Fund, either out of the net proceeds of sale of redundant churches or by way of grant from the Church Commissioners. The Order also allows for further sums to be paid to the Redundant Churches Fund out of such sale proceeds during the current quinquennium .
