Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

Assured tenancies are tenancies which, but for section 56 of the Housing Act 1980, would have been protected tenancies or housing association tenancies under the Rent Act 1977 (c. 42), and which meet certain other conditions. Such tenancies are subject to Part II of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 (c. 56), as modified by Schedule 5 to the 1980 Act. They can only be granted by bodies approved under section 56 of the 1980 Act.

The Assured Tenancies (Approved Bodies) (No.2) Order 1988 contained a list of 58 bodies to which approval was given. The name of the 33rd body was inadvertently set out incorrectly and this Order substitutes the correct name.
