2.  The Fishing Vessels (Safety Provisions) Rules 1975(1) shall be amended as follows:—

(1) In Schedule 10 (requirements for lifebuoys)—

(a)in Part I, paragraph 1, for “liferaft” there shall be substituted “lifebuoy”;

(b)in Part II after paragraph 5 there shall be added the following paragraphs:—

6.  Every lifebuoy shall be marked in block letters with the name and the port of registry of the vessel in which it is carried. Lifebuoys constructed of materials other than cork shall be permanently marked with the manufacturer's trade name.

7.  Every lifebuoy shall be fitted with grab lines which shall be of good quality unkinkable line and well secured at four equidistant points, providing four loops of line each not less than 510 millimetres long.

8.  The weight of a lifebuoy shall not exceed 3.4 kilogrammes when newly constructed.;

(2) In Schedule 11 (requirements for lifejackets), in Part I—

(a)for sub-paragraph 3(h) there shall be substituted the following sub-paragraph:

(h)it shall have fastening tapes securely attached to the life-jacket cover which comply with British Standards Specification No. B.S. 2F 49: 1959 and are capable of taking a load of 140 kilogrammes. The method of fastening the tapes shall be such as to be easily understood and capable of being readily carried out. Metal fastenings when used shall be of a size and strength consistent with the fastening tapes and of corrosion resistant material; and;

(b)in sub-paragraph 5(d) for the final sentence there shall be substituted:

The sewing shall be carried out with thread of undyed linen yarn having a count of 25 lea, 3 cord reverse twist (resultant Tex count 66), satin finish and complying with the specifications in Clauses 2, 3 and 4 (except paragraph 4(a)) of British Standards Specification No. BS. 4F 34: 1960: for thread of that count.
