Commencement

257.The following provisions came into force on the day Royal Assent to this Act was given: provisions for city academies and their land provisions in sections 130, 131 and Schedule 8; the transitional provisions for the LSC, CETW and ALI in parts I to III of Schedule 10; and the general provisions of this Act in sections 150 to 156, with the exception of section 153 introducing Schedule 11 dealing with repeals. All other provisions of this Act come into force in accordance with one or more commencement orders. Commencement orders in respect of provision relating to England are made by the Secretary of State. The first order was made on 1 August. Commencement orders in respect of provision relating to Wales are made by the National Assembly with the exception of provisions relating to functions which have not been devolved to the National Assembly; such orders will also be made by the Secretary of State. Current plans are that the LSC and the CETW will take up the majority of their functions from April 2001.
