55In section 40 of the [1984 c. 23.] Registered Homes Act 1984, at the beginning of subsection (6) (terms of appointment of persons to the panels of chairmen and other members of Registered Homes Tribunals), there shall be inserted the words “Subject, in the case of a person appointed to the legal panel, to subsection (7) below,” and after that subsection there shall be added—
“(7)No appointment of a person to the legal panel shall be such as to extend beyond the day on which he attains the age of seventy years; but this subsection is subject to section 26(4) to (6) of the Judicial Pensions and Retirement Act 1993 (power to authorise continuance in office up to the age of seventy-five years).”
