18In section 71 of the [1978 c. 23.] Judicature (Northern Ireland) Act 1978, for subsection (3) (which provides that a statutory officer, within the meaning of that Act, is to retire at the end of the completed year of service in which he attains the age of 72, but subject to the substitution of a lower age, under subsection (4)) there shall be substituted—
“(3)Subject to subsection (4) below and to subsections (4) to (6) of section 26 of the Judicial Pensions and Retirement Act 1993 (Lord Chancellor’s power to authorise continuance in office beyond the age of 70, up to the age of 75), a statutory officer shall retire on the day on which he attains the age of 70 years.”
