An Act to make it the duty of local authorities to abolish turnstiles in public lavatories and sanitary conveniences.

C1Act: transfer of functions (1.7.1999) by S.I. 1999/672, art. 2, Sch. 1
(1)Every turnstile in any part of a public lavatory or public sanitary convenience controlled or managed by a local authority, or in any entrance or exit of such a public lavatory or convenience, shall be removed not later than six months after the passing of this Act; and after the passing of this Act no turnstile shall be installed in, or in any entrance or exit of, any such public lavatory or convenience.
(2)It shall be the duty of local authorities to ensure that the provisions of this Act are complied with notwithstanding anything in any other Act, whether public or local.
(3)If any local authority in England and Wales fail to discharge a duty imposed on them by the foregoing provisions of this section, that duty shall be enforceable, on the application of [F1the Secretary of State], by mandamus.

(5)In this section the expression “local authority” means, in England and Wales, a local authority within the meaning of [F3the M1Local Government Act 1972], . . .
