Statutory Rules of Northern Ireland
Road Traffic And Vehicles
Made
24th November 2017
Coming into operation
29th December 2017
The Department for Infrastructure(1) makes the following Regulations in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 16(1) and 18(5) of the Taxis Act (Northern Ireland) 2008(2) and now vested in it(3).
In accordance with section 16(3) of that Act the Department has taken into consideration recommendations made by the General Consumer Council for Northern Ireland.
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Taxis (Taximeters, Devices and Maximum Fares) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2017 and shall come into operation on 29th December 2017.
2.—(1) The Taxis (Taximeters, Devices and Maximum Fares) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2015(4) are amended in accordance with paragraphs (2) and (3).
(2) In regulation 10(2A)(5) (use of taximeter)—
(a)sub-paragraph (b), in the second place where it occurs, is renumbered (c); and
(b)sub-paragraphs (c) to (g) are renumbered (d) to (h).
(3) In Part 1 of the Schedule(6) (maximum fares) in column (3)—
(a)for “4 minutes and 46 seconds”, in each place where it occurs, substitute “3 minutes and 32 seconds”; and
(b)for “1 minute and 35 seconds” substitute “3 minutes and 9 seconds”.
(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These Regulations amend the Taxis (Taximeters, Devices and Maximum Fares) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2015 (“the Taximeters Regulations”) to correct an error made in the waiting time element of the tariff, the element that determines the charge when the taxi is stopped or moving at slow speeds.
This amendment accurately reflects how the fares are currently calculated and in practice does not result in any increase in the fares being charged.
The Regulations also make a minor amendment to the sub-paragraph numbers in regulation 10(2A) of the Taximeters Regulations.
