The Department of Justice makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by section 28(3)(a) of the Human Trafficking and Exploitation (Criminal Justice and Support for Victims) Act (Northern Ireland) 2015(1).
1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Human Trafficking and Exploitation (2015 Act) (Commencement No. 2) Order (Northern Ireland) 2016.
(2) In this Order, “the 2015 Act” means the Human Trafficking and Exploitation (Criminal Justice and Support for Victims) Act (Northern Ireland) 2015.
2. Section 11 of, and Schedule 3 to, the 2015 Act (slavery and trafficking prevention orders) shall come into operation on 1st April 2016 all other purposes.

Section 11 of, and Schedule 3 to, the Human Trafficking and Exploitation (Criminal Justice and Support for Victims) Act (Northern Ireland) 2015 (“the 2015 Act”) make provision for courts in Northern Ireland to impose slavery and trafficking prevention orders (STPOs) upon offenders convicted of an offence of slavery, servitude and forced or compulsory labour, or of human trafficking, either upon sentencing or following an application by the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
This Order commences section 11 of, and Schedule 3 to, the 2015 Act on 1st April 2016 for all other purposes to make the STPO regime fully operational.
