Provision of financial assistance

3.—(1) The Department may, for the purposes referred to in Article 4, provide financial assistance to any person who for the time being is the owner or charterer of an eligible Northern Ireland fishing boat (“an eligible person”).
(2) That financial assistance –
(a)shall not exceed £500,000 in total;
(b)shall not be payable in any case or to any extent except in compliance with the requirements of Commission Regulation (EC) No. 875/2007 (1) on the application of Articles 87 and 88 of the EC Treaty to de-minimis aid in the fisheries sector; and;
(c)shall be in the form of grants.

Explanatory Memorandum
