The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 3 (1) to (4) and (7) of the Financial Assistance for Young Farmers (Northern Ireland) Order 2004 (1), makes the following Order.
1. This Order may be cited as the Financial Assistance for Young Farmers Scheme (Amendment) Order (Northern Ireland) 2008 and shall come into operation on 2nd June 2008.
2.—(1) The Financial Assistance for Young Farmers Scheme Order (Northern Ireland) 2005(2) shall be amended in accordance with paragraphs (2) to (4).
(2) In paragraph 3 of the Schedule (financial assistance for young farmers) after sub-paragraph (1) there shall be inserted the following sub-paragraph—
“(1A) The Department shall not make a grant under paragraph (1) in respect of expenditure incurred in servicing any part of a qualifying loan which has not been used before 1st August 2010 for the purposes of, or in connection with, the implementation of the business plan referred to in paragraph (3).”.
(3) For paragraph 4 of the Schedule (applications) there shall be substituted the following paragraph—
4.—(1) An application for a grant under this Scheme shall be made in such form and contain such information and be accompanied by such documents as the Department may require.
(2) The Department may require an applicant to furnish such further information and documents as it considers necessary.”.
(4) For paragraph 5 of the Schedule (closing date for applications) there shall be substituted the following paragraph—
5. The Department shall not pay any grant under this Scheme unless—
(a)the application for the grant is received by the Department before 28th February 2009; and
(b)all information and documents required to be furnished under Article 4 (2) are received by the Department before 1st July 2009.”.

This Order amends the Financial Assistance for Young Farmers Scheme (Northern Ireland) 2005. It—
(a ) provides that the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (“the Department”) shall not make a grant under the Scheme in respect of any part of a qualifying loan which has not been used before 1st August 2010 for the purposes of, or in connection with, the implementation of a young farmer’s business plan (Article 2(2));
(b ) provides that the Department may require applicants for a grant under the Scheme to furnish additional information and documents (Article 2(3));
(c ) extends the closing date for applications for a grant under the Scheme to 27th February 2009 (Article 2(4)); and
(d ) sets a closing date of 30th June 2009 for furnishing information and documents if a person is to qualify for a grant under the Scheme (Article 2(4)).
