1. These Regulations may be cited as the Inshore Fishing (Daily Close Time for Scallops) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000 and shall come into operation on 29th February 2000.
2. In these Regulations—
“Northern Ireland inshore waters” means waters within British fishery limits which are adjacent to Northern Ireland and are not nearer to any point on the baselines from which the breadth of the territorial sea adjacent to Great Britain or the Isle of Man is measured than to any point on the corresponding Northern Irish baselines;
“scallops” means shell fish of the species Pectem maximus.
3. Subject to regulation 4, fishing for scallops in Northern Ireland inshore waters is prohibited—
(a)during the period commencing at 9 p.m. on each weekday other than Saturday and ending at 5 a.m. on the next following weekday; and
(b)during the period commencing at 5 a.m. on each Saturday and ending at 5 a.m. on the next following Monday.
4. The prohibition contained in regulation 3 shall only apply to—
(a)fishing by a British fisherman; or
(b)fishing from a British fishing boat.
