ROAD TRAFFIC AND VEHICLES

The Department of the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Articles 5(3) and 218(1) of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1981(1), and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) (Amendment No. 2) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000 and shall come into operation on 27th November 2000.
2.—(1) Regulation 18 (persons by whom practical and unitary tests may be conducted) of the Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1996(2) shall be amended in accordance with paragraphs (2) and (3).
(2) For paragraph (1)(d) there shall be substituted—
“(d)the Chief Fire Officer of the Fire Authority for Northern Ireland in so far as concerns the testing of persons employed or to be employed by him to drive motor vehicles;
(e)a person authorised with the approval of the Department by a person specified in sub-paragraph (b), (c) or (d), to conduct tests on his behalf.”.
(3) In paragraphs (2) and (3), for the words “sub-paragraphs (b), (c) or (d)”., there shall be substituted “sub-paragraphs (b), (c), (d) or (e)”.

These Regulations amend regulation 18 of the Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1996 so as to authorise the Chief Fire Officer of the Fire Authority for Northern Ireland to conduct practical driving tests for persons employed, or to be employed, by him to drive motor vehicles.
