Statutory Rules of Northern Ireland
ANIMALS

Coming into operation
1st January 1999
The Department of Health and Social Services for Northern Ireland, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by section 7(9) of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986(1) as adapted by section 29 of that Act and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act (Amendment to Schedule 2) Order (Northern Ireland) 1998.
(2) This Order shall come into operation on 1st January 1999.
(3) The Interpretation Act (Northern Ireland) 1954(2) shall apply to this order as it applies to a Measure of the Northern Ireland Assembly.
2. At the end of Schedule 2 to the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (animals to be obtained only from designated breeding or supplying establishments)(3), there shall be added—
“Pig, if genetically modified
Sheep, if genetically modified
Ferret
Gerbil”.

Article 2 of this Order adds references to ferrets and gerbils and to pigs and sheep, if genetically modified, to the list of animals in Schedule 2 to the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 as from 1st January 1999. That Schedule lists animals which must be obtained only from designated breeding or supplying establishments.
