Statutory Rules of Northern Ireland
DANGEROUS DRUGS

The Department of Health and Social Services for Northern Ireland in exercise of the powers conferred by section 7(4) and (5) of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971(1) as adapted by section 7(9) of that Act and now vested in it(2) and of every other power enabling it in that behalf and on the recommendation of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs(3), hereby makes the following Order:—
1. This Order may be cited as the Misuse of Drugs (Designation) (Variation) Order (Northern Ireland) 1998 and shall come into operation on 1st May 1998.
2.—(1) The Interpretation Act (Northern Ireland) 1954(4) shall apply to this Order as it applies to a Measure of the Northern Ireland Assembly.
(2) In this Order the “principal Order” means the Misuse of Drugs (Designation) Order (Northern Ireland) 1987(5).
3.—(1) The principal Order shall be varied as follows—
(2) In paragraph 1(a) of Part I to the Schedule, there shall be inserted—
(a)after the word “Eticyclidine”, the word “Etryptamine”, and
(b)after the word “Mescaline”, the word “Methcathinone”.

This Order varies the Misuse of Drugs (Designation) (Northern Ireland) Order 1987 by adding to Part I of the Schedule (which specifies the controlled drugs which are designated as drugs to which section 7(4) of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 applies) Etryptamine and Methcathinone.
