Council Directive 93/14/EEC of 5 April 1993 on the braking of two or three-wheel motor vehicles (repealed)
After exit day there will be three versions of this legislation to consult for different purposes. The legislation.gov.uk version is the version that applies in the UK. The EU Version currently on EUR-lex is the version that currently applies in the EU i.e you may need this if you operate a business in the EU.
The web archive version is the official version of this legislation item as it stood on exit day before being published to legislation.gov.uk and any subsequent UK changes and effects applied. The web archive also captured associated case law and other language formats from EUR-Lex.
This is the original version (as it was originally adopted).
a For mopeds with a maximum speed of 25 km/h or lower which have a wheel rim of 45 mm or less (code 1,75), this value is 2,8 or S ≤ 0,1 + V2/73. If this value cannot be achieved by each braking device because of limited adhesion, the value 4,0 m/s2 must be applied for a test on a laden vehicle using both braking devices simultaneously. | ||
b If these values for single braking devices cannot be achieved because of limited adhesion the following values shall be substituted for a test with the vehicle laden using both braking devices together: — three-wheel mopeds : 4,4 m/s2; — two-wheel motorcycles : 5,8 m/s2. | ||
Category | Stopping distance (S)(in m) | Corresponding mean developed deceleration,(in m/s2) |
---|---|---|
Two-wheel mopeds | S ≤ 0,1.V + V2/90 | 3,4a |
Three-wheel mopeds | S ≤ 0,1.V + V2/70 | 2,7b |
Two-wheel motorcycles | S ≤ 0,1.V + V2/115 | 4,4b |
Motorcycles with sidecar | S ≤ 0,1.V + V2/95 | 3,6 |
