Explanatory Note

This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations specify natural prawns and shrimps and any part of them for the purposes of the definition of “rod and line” in section 24(1) of the Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries (Protection) (Scotland) Act 1951. They apply to the River Tweed and its tributaries (including that part of the River Tweed which is situated in England) for the whole of each year. The effect is to prohibit the use of natural prawns and shrimps (or any part of them) as bait when fishing by rod and line for salmon and sea trout. These Regulations revoke the River Tweed (Baits and Lures) Regulations 1988 which prohibited the use of natural prawns and shrimps as bait during the period from 1st June to 14th September in each year.

(2)

1951 c. 26; section 24(1) was amended by the Salmon Act 1986, section 8(6).
