In exercise of the powers conferred upon me by section 9 of the Diplomatic and Consular Premises Act 1987(1), I hereby make the following Order:

1.  This Order may be cited as the Diplomatic and Consular Premises Act 1987 (Commencement No.1) Order 1987.

2.  The provisions of the Diplomatic and Consular Premises Act 1987 specified in the Schedule to this Order shall come into force on 11th June 1987.

SCHEDULEPROVISIONS OF THE DIPLOMATIC AND CONSULAR PREMISES ACT 1987 COMING INTO FORCE ON 11th JUNE 1987

Provisions of the ActSubject matter of provisions
Section 6Amendments of Diplomatic Privileges Act 1964(2) and Consular Relations Act 1968(3) concerning protection of diplomatic and consular premises (set out in Schedule 2 to the Act).
Section 7Amendments of Criminal Law Act 1977(4) concerning trespassing on closed diplomatic and consular premises.
Schedule 2Amendments of Diplomatic Privileges Act 1964 and Consular Relations Act 1968.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into force on 11th June 1987—

  • section 6 of the Diplomatic and Consular Premises Act 1987 (which adds certain provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic and Consular Relations, relating to diplomatic and consular premises and their protection, to Schedules 1 to the Diplomatic Privileges Act 1964 and the Consular Relations Act 1968 respectively); and

  • section 7 of the Act (which adds to section 9 of the Criminal Law Act 1977 provisions concerning trespassing on closed diplomatic and consular premises).
