1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 (Commencement No. 6 and Saving and Transitional Provisions) Order 1999.
(2) In this Order–
“the 1996 Act” means the Education Act 1996(1); and
“the 1998 Act” means the School Standards and Framework Act 1998.
2.—(1) The provisions of the 1998 Act specified in Schedule 1 to this Order shall come into force on 1st April 1999.
(2) The provisions of the 1998 Act specified in Schedule 2 to this Order shall come into force on 1st June 1999.
(3) The provisions of the 1998 Act specified in Schedule 3 to this Order shall come into force on 1st September 1999.
3. The amendment of section 49(3) of the Education (No. 2) Act 1986(2) (appraisal of performance of teachers) by paragraph 14 of Schedule 30 to the 1998 Act shall only apply in relation to regulations under the said section 49 which are made to come into effect on or after 1st September 1999 and shall not affect the operation prior to that date of regulations made under that section in its unamended form.
4. Section 216(5) to (8) of the 1996 Act shall continue to have effect on and after 1st April 1999 in relation to grant paid under section 216(2) or (4) before that day.
5. Section 310 of the 1996 Act shall continue to have effect in relation to financial years commencing on or before 1st April 1998.
6. The transitional and saving provisions in Schedule 4 to this Order (relating to the admission of children to maintained schools) shall have effect.
7. Paragraph 5 (school inspection) of Schedule 2 to the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 (Commencement No. 2 and Supplemental, Saving and Transitional Provisions) Order 1998(3) shall be amended by the substitution for “1st August 1999” of the words “1st January 2000 in relation to the Chief Inspector of Schools in England or 1st August 2000 in relation to the Chief Inspector of Schools in Wales”.
8. The Code of Practice on School Admissions(4) under section 84 of the 1998 Act shall come into force on 1st April 1999.
9. The Code of Practice on LEA-School Relations(5) under section 127 of the 1998 Act shall come into force on 19th April 1999.
