The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 1(1)(b) and (2) of the Horserace Totalisator and Betting Levy Boards Act 1972(1), hereby makes the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Horserace Totalisator Board (Extension of Powers) Order 1996 and shall come into force on 20th December 1996.
2. The outcome of any lottery conducted outside the United Kingdom is an event approved for the purposes of section 1(1)(b) of the Horserace Totalisator and Betting Levy Boards Act 1972.

This Order extends the corporate powers of the Horserace Totalisator Board so as to enable it, by way of business, to receive or negotiate fixed odds bets on the outcome of any lottery conducted outside the United Kingdom.
