(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order, made under section 735(1) of the Merchant Shipping Act 1894, confirms a Law of 1992 enacted by the Legislature of the Cayman Islands which codifies and consolidates the law in force in the Cayman Islands relating to the operation of merchant ships insofar as such operation involves matters of safety and marine pollution, including the making of further provision as to the powers of surveyors and inspectors, the liability of charterers and offences by bodies corporate.
The Law makes consequential amendments and repeals, as set out in the schedules to the Law, to the Merchant Shipping (Submersible Craft) Law 1991 and the Registration of Merchant Ships Law 1991, and to the Merchant Shipping Act 1894, the Merchant Shipping Act 1970 and the Merchant Shipping Act 1988 (in so far as those Acts apply or have been extended to the Cayman Islands). The Law also makes a technical amendment to section 11(6) of the Registration of Merchant Ships Law 1991.
Law No. 12 of 1992.
