The M6 Motorway (Widening and Improvements Between Junctions 30 and 32) and Connecting Roads Scheme 1991

The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Scheme in exercise of powers conferred by sections 16, 17 and 19 of the Highways Act 1980(1), and now vested in him(2), and of all other enabling powers:

1.  The Secretary of State is authorised to provide for the use of traffic of Classes I and II of the classes of traffic set out in Schedule 4 to the Highways Act 1980–

(a)a special road along the route described in Schedule 1 to this scheme (“the motorway”), and

(b)special roads along the routes described in Schedule 2 to this scheme for the purposes of connecting the M6 Motorway with other highways at the places stated in that schedule (“the connecting roads”).

2.  The centre line of each of the special roads is indicated by a heavy black line on the deposited plan.

3.  The special roads shall become trunk roads on the date when this Scheme comes into force.

4.  In this Scheme–

(1) all measurements of distance are measured along the route of the relevant highway;

(2) (i) “the deposited plan” means the plan folio numbered HA16/1 CNW 308 marked “The M6 Motorway (Widening and Improvements Between Junctions 30 and 32) and Connecting Roads Scheme 1991”, containing 1 key plan and 3 scheme plans bound together and numbered 1, 2 and 3 signed by authority of the Secretary of State and deposited at the Department of Transport, Romney House, 43 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY;

(ii)“the special roads”means all the special roads which the Secretary of State is authorised by this scheme to provide;

(iii)“the M6 Motorway”means the existing M6 Motorway (Preston Bypass Section, Junctions 30 to 32);

(iv)“the M61 Motorway”means the M61 Manchester–Preston Motorway at Blacow, Junction 30;

(v)“the A59 Trunk Road” means the Liverpool–Preston–Leeds Trunk Road A59 Preston New Road and A59 Brockholes Brow at Samlesbury, Junction 31.

5.  This Scheme shall come into force on 12th September 1991, and may be cited as the M6 Motorway (Widening and Improvements Between Junctions 30 and 32) and Connecting Roads Scheme 1991.

SCHEDULE 1ROUTE OF THE MOTORWAY

A route, about 690 metres in length from a point on the existing M6 Motorway approximately 70 metres north west of the disused railway bridge known as Ribbleton Railway Bridge, in a generally north westerly direction to a point on the existing M6 Motorway approximately 760 metres north west of the Ribbleton Railway Bridge, at Haighton in the Borough of Preston, in the County of Lancashire. (The centre line of the motorway is shown on scheme plan No. 3 in the deposited plan, where it is given reference letter A.)

SCHEDULE 2ROUTES OF THE CONNECTING ROADS

1. JUNCTION WITH THE M61 MOTORWAY AT BLACOW (JUNCTION 30)

Two routes (comprising slip roads) to connect the northbound and southbound carriageways of the M6 Motorway with the M61 Motorway at Junction 30, Blacow. (The special roads along these routes being respectively given the reference numbers 1 and 2 on scheme plan 1 in the deposited plan.)

2. JUNCTION WITH THE A59 TRUNK ROAD, PRESTON NEW ROAD AT SAMLESBURY (JUNCTION 31)

Four routes (comprising slip roads) to connect the northbound and southbound carriageways of the M6 Motorway with two proposed all purpose roundabouts to be constructed on the A59 Trunk Road which passes under the M6 Motorway, replacing the immediately adjacent existing roundabout junctions on the A59 Trunk Road. (The special roads along these routes being respectively given the reference numbers 3, 4, 5 and 6 on scheme plan 2 in the deposited plan.)
