The Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 4 and 20 of the Legal Aid Act 1974(1), hereby makes the following Regulations:—
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Legal Advice and Assistance (Financial Conditions) (No. 2) Regulations 1987 and shall come into force on 6th April 1987.
2. For the weekly sum of £54 specified in section 4(2) of the Legal Aid Act 1974(2) there shall be substituted the weekly sum of £56.
3. For the sums specified in Schedule 3 to the Legal Advice and Assistance Regulations (No. 2) 1980(3), there shall be substituted the following sums:—
Exceeding £56 but not exceeding £64 a week £5
Exceeding £64 but not exceeding £68 a week £11
Exceeding £68 but not exceeding £72 a week £15
Exceeding £72 but not exceeding £76 a week £20
Exceeding £76 but not exceeding £80 a week £24
Exceeding £80 but not exceeding £84 a week £28
Exceeding £84 but not exceeding £88 a week £33
Exceeding £88 but not exceeding £92 a week £37
Exceeding £92 but not exceeding £96 a week £41
Exceeding £96 but not exceeding £100 a week £46
Exceeding £100 but not exceeding £106 a week £51
Exceeding £106 but not exceeding £112 a week £58
Exceeding £112 but not exceeding £118 a week £64

These Regulations increase from £54 to £56 a week the disposable income above which a person receiving legal advice and assistance under Part I of the Legal Aid Act 1974 is required to pay a contribution and amend the scale of contributions.
