An Act to amend the New Forest Act 1877.
[11th August 1879]
Whereas it is expedient to amend the New Forest Act 1877:
This Act may be cited for all purposes as the New Forest Act 1879.
The verderers may in their discretion allow cattle and other animals belonging [F1to commoners in excess of the number they are entitled to depasture by virtue of their rights of common or belonging] to persons not being commoners, but being owners or occupiers of land adjacent to or abutting on the forest, to depasture in the forest . . . F2
Any moneys payable to the verderers under or in pursuance of this Act may be recovered by them either as debts or in manner in which they are empowered under the M1New Forest Act 1877 to recover moneys leviable by them under that Act.
Any fines and moneys received by the verderers under or in pursuance of this Act shall be carried by them to the account of the general fund established under the New Forest Act 1877 and applied accordingly.
A person depasturing cattle or other animals in the forest in pursuance of this Act shall not thereby acquire any right of common or other right in, to, or out of the forest.
