8.—(1) The Trust may make payments from the accounts for the following purposes—
(a)to relieve the distress and hardship of police officers and former police officers who have been injured physically and psychologically;
(b)to research and develop vocational and employment opportunities for police officers and former police officers;
(c)to develop programmes of education, careers counselling, training and support for police officers and former police officers;
(d)to assist in the development of innovations in support of police officers and former police officers;
(e)with the approval of the Department to provide similar services to other organisations within or funded by the Department;
(f)to pay such remuneration and allowances to employees of the Trust as the Board, with the approval of the Department and of the Department of Finance and Personnel, may from time to time determine;
(g)to make such contributions to a pension scheme for the benefit of employees of the Trust as the Board may from time to time determine;
(h)to carry out clinical training, research, administrative and other functions ancillary to the provision of assistance to police officers and former police officers;
(i)to make payments to families of police officers and former police officers in order to relieve distress and hardship;
(j)for any other purpose which the Board considers to be in keeping with the aims and functions of the Trust.
(2) Not less than one month before the start of each financial year, the Trust shall draw up a projected expenditure plan and shall send two copies thereof for approval to the Department.
