Statutory Rules of Northern Ireland
ROADS
Made

Coming into operation
27th September 2004
WHEREAS the Department for Regional Development(1) in accordance with Article 15(1) of the Roads (Northern Ireland) Order 1993(2) proposes to construct the roads described in Part I of the Schedule and considers it expedient to designate them as special roads;
AND WHEREAS the Department in accordance with Article 14(1) of that Order considers it expedient for the purpose of improving the trunk system that the roads described in Part I of the Schedule should be designated as trunk roads;
AND WHEREAS the Department in accordance with Article 68(4) of that Order proposes on the completion of works providing alternative facilities for road traffic to:
(i)stop-up the lengths of road described in Part II of the Schedule to road traffic; and
(ii)stop-up the roads described in Part III of the Schedule to vehicular traffic;
AND WHEREAS notice has been published, served and displayed in compliance with paragraphs 1, 2 and 3 of Schedule 8 to that Order;
AND WHEREAS no objection has been received;
NOW THEREFORE the Department in exercise of the powers conferred by Articles 14(1), 15(1), 16(1) and (2) and 68(1) and (3) of the Roads (Northern Ireland) Order 1993 and now exercisable by it(3) and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, hereby orders and directs as follows:
1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the M2 (Crosskennan) Order (Northern Ireland) 2004 and shall come into operation on 27th September 2004.
(2) In this Order “the map” means the drawing numbered 34/58/FP/DO marked “M2 (Crosskennan) Order (Northern Ireland) 2004” copies of which have been deposited at the Department’s Roads Service offices, Headquarters, Room 2-01, Clarence Court, 10-18 Adelaide Street, Belfast BT2 8GB and Northern Division, County Hall, Castlerock Road, Coleraine BT51 3HS.
2. The roads described in Part I of the Schedule shall become special roads.
3. The roads described in Part I of the Schedule shall become trunk roads and be part of the Belfast-Coleraine-Londonderry Trunk Road T7.
4.—(1) The Department shall carry out such works as it considers necessary for the provision of alternative facilities for road traffic and on completion of the works:
(a)the lengths of road described in Part II of the Schedule shall be stopped-up to road traffic; and
(b)the roads described in Part III of the Schedule shall be stopped-up to vehicular traffic.
(2) The Department shall carry out such works as it considers necessary to prevent or restrict to such extent as the Department thinks fit, access to the lengths of road described in Part II of the Schedule by road traffic and to the roads described in Part III of the Schedule by vehicular traffic.
5. The roads described in Part I of the Schedule shall be used only by traffic of Classes I and II as set out in Schedule 1 to the Roads (Northern Ireland) Order 1993.

Approximately 1165 metres of new slip roads in the townlands of Bush, Whin Park, Bretten Walls and Glenmullion, County of Antrim consisting of:
(a)approximately 620 metres of slip road extending in a generally north-westerly direction from an enlarged roundabout on B532 Bush Road to the M2 motorway more particularly delineated, coloured red and marked Westbound On-Slip on the map;
(b)approximately 525 metres of slip road extending in a generally south-easterly direction from a new roundabout on U1073 Niblock Road to the M2 motorway more particularly delineated, coloured red and marked Eastbound On-Slip on the map;
(c)approximately 20 metres of a section of slip road extending in a generally south-easterly direction from a point on the east-bound off-slip approximately 280 metres south-east of the M2 motorway to a new roundabout on U1073 Niblock Road more particularly delineated, coloured red and marked Eastbound Off-Slip on the map.
U1072 Glenmullion Road
(a)at its junction with U1073 Niblock Road more particularly delineated, coloured green and marked J1 on the map;
(b)at a line approximately 65 metres south-east of its junction with U1073 Niblock Road more particularly delineated, coloured green and marked J2 on the map;
(c)at a line approximately 100 metres south-east of its junction with U1073 Niblock Road more particularly delineated, coloured green and marked J3 on the map; and
(d)at a line approximately 180 metres south-east of its junction with U1073 Niblock Road more particularly delineated, coloured green and marked J4 on the map.
1. B532 Bush Road at the enlarged roundabout which will exist at its junction with U1072 Niblock Road more particularly delineated, coloured purple and marked S1 on the map.
2. U1072 Niblock Road at the enlarged roundabout which will exist at its junction with B532 Bush Road more particularly delineated, coloured purple and marked S2 on the map.
3. U1073 Niblock Road at the new roundabout which will exist at its junction with U1072 Glenmullion Road more particularly delineated, coloured purple and marked S3 and S4 on the map.
(This note is not part of the Order.)
This Order provides that approximately 1165 metres of new slip roads described in Part I of the Schedule and more particularly delineated and coloured red on the map shall be special roads subject to motorway traffic restrictions and be part of the Belfast-Coleraine-Londonderry Trunk Road T7.
The Order also provides for the stopping-up of certain roads.
Other proposed new road junctions and connecting roads together with an enlarged roundabout at B352 Bush Road and a new roundabout at U1073 Niblock Road which are not the subject of the Order are shown coloured blue on the map for the purpose of clarification.
The map referred to above means Drawing No. 34/58/FP/DO marked “M2 (Crosskennan) Order (Northern Ireland) 2004” copies of which have been deposited for inspection at the Department’s Roads Service offices, Headquarters, Room 2-01, Clarence Court, 10-18 Adelaide Street, Belfast BT2 8GB and Northern Division, County Hall, Castlerock Road, Coleraine BT51 3HS.
