Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order.)

This Order brings into operation on 14th July 1996 the last remaining provision, paragraph (3) of Article 4, of the Offshore, and Pipelines, Safety (Northern Ireland) Order 1992. That paragraph, as amended, provides that certain Articles of, and Schedules to, the Gas (Northern Ireland) Order 1996, and any Regulations made or having effect under those provisions, shall have effect as if they were “existing statutory provisions” of the Health and Safety at Work (Northern Ireland) Order 1978.

Regulations made under the Health and Safety at Work (Northern Ireland) Order 1978 may, amongst other things, repeal or modify any “existing statutory provisions” of that Order.
