Citation, commencement and interpretation

1.  This Order may be cited as the Beef (Emergency Control) (Amendment) Order (Northern Ireland) 1996 and shall come into operation on 30th April 1996.

Amendment of the Beef (Emergency Control) Order (Northern Ireland) 1996

2.  The Beef (Emergency Control) Order (Northern Ireland) 1996(1) shall be amended by—

(a)inserting after Article 2(2), the following paragraph—

“(3) The provision in paragraph (1) shall not apply to meat from a bovine animal that was born, reared and slaughtered in any of the countries specified in the Schedule.”;

(b)at the end inserting the following Schedule—

Article 2(3)

“SCHEDULECountries Exempted from Article 2(1)

  • Argentina

  • Australia

  • Botswana

  • Brazil

  • Mauritius

  • Namibia

  • New Zealand

  • Paraguay

  • Poland

  • South Africa

  • Swaziland

  • Uruguay

  • United States of America

  • Zimbabwe”.
