1. These Regulations may be cited as the Social Security (Credits) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012 and shall come into operation on 5th April 2012.
2. In regulation 9C of the Social Security (Credits) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1975(3) (credits for adoption pay period and maternity pay period)—
(a)in the heading after “adoption pay period” insert “, additional paternity pay period”;
(b)in paragraph (1)(a) after “paragraph (2)(a)” insert “or (aa)”;
(c)in paragraph (2) after sub-paragraph (a) insert—
“(aa)the additional paternity pay period in respect of which additional statutory paternity pay was paid to a person, or”; and
(d)in paragraph (5)—
(i)after ““adoption pay period”,” insert ““additional paternity pay period”,”, and
(ii)after ““statutory adoption pay”” insert “, “additional statutory paternity pay””.

These Regulations amend regulation 9C of the Social Security (Credits) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1975 to provide for an award of credits in respect of any week during which a person was paid additional statutory paternity pay.
These Regulations make in relation to Northern Ireland only provision corresponding to provision contained in Regulations made by the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions in relation to Great Britain and accordingly, by virtue of section 149(3) of, and paragraph 10 of Schedule 5 to, the Social Security Administration (Northern Ireland) Act 1992, are not subject to the requirement of section 149(2) of that Act for prior reference to the Social Security Advisory Committee.
1992 c. 7; section 22(5) was amended by paragraph 5 of Schedule 2 to the Jobseekers (Northern Ireland) Order 1995 (S.I. 1995/2705 (N.I. 15)) and paragraph 3(3)(b) of Schedule 3 to the Welfare Reform Act (Northern Ireland) 2007 (c. 2 (N.I.)) and section 171(1) was amended by paragraph 5 of Schedule 4 to the Tax Credits Act 2002 (c. 21)

They aim to make the Statutory Rule accessible to readers who are not legally qualified and accompany any Northern Ireland Statutory Rule or Draft Northern Ireland Statutory Rule laid before the UK Parliament during the suspension of the Northern Ireland Assembly.
