An Act to provide for the transfer of certain property from the Trustees of Magee University College Londonderry to the New University of Ulster, and for the amount payable in respect of that transfer; to enable those Trustees to deal with the contents of the buildings so transferred; to set out the duties of those Trustees, and to confer jurisdiction on the High Court to deal with certain property; to authorise the making of regulations for compensation, in certain circumstances, for members of the academic staff and other employees of that College; to give that University the option to purchase the premises of the Magee Theological College Londonderry; to authorise those Trustees to convey the Peace Thanksgiving Hostel, and to transfer the Peace Thanksgiving Fund, to the Trustees of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland; and for purposes connected therewith.

(1)The Ministry of Education, with the approval of the Ministry of FinanceF2, may after the appointed day by regulations make provision for the payment, on such terms and subject to such conditions as may be specified in the regulations, of compensation to any member of the academic staff, or any other employee, of the College who—
(a)suffers loss or diminution of emoluments, or whose terms or conditions of service are adversely affected, by reason of his becoming employed by the University; or
(b)suffers loss of employment by reason of his not being employed by the University.
(2)Regulations made under this section may include provision as to—
(a)the manner in which, the time within which and the person to whom, any claim for compensation is to be made; and
(b)the determination of questions arising under the regulations.
(3)The Ministry of Education shall pay, out of moneys provided by Parliament, any compensation payable under this section.
(4)Regulations under this section shall be subject to affirmative resolution.

“the Act of 1953” has the meaning assigned by section 3(2)( b);
“the appointed day” has the meaning assigned by section 1(1);
“the College” has the meaning assigned by section 3(2);

(2)The repeal of section 10 of the Act of 1953 shall not affect any trustee appointed under that section before the appointed day.
