O dan adran 24(2)(gg) o Ddeddf Addysg 1997 (fel y'i cymhwysir at Awdurdod Cymwysterau, Cwricwlwm ac Asesu Cymru gan Orchymyn Addysg (Awdurdod Cymwysterau, Cwricwlwm ac Asesu Cymru) (Rhoi Swyddogaeth) 2001) mae gan Awdurdod Cymwysterau, Cwricwlwm ac Asesu Cymru (“ACCAC”) y swyddogaeth o wneud trefniadau ar gyfer datblygu, gosod neu roi profion sydd i'w sefyll neu dasgau sydd i'w gwneud gyda golwg ar ennill cymwysterau allanol ac sy'n dod o fewn disgrifiad a bennir mewn rheoliadau.
Mae'r Rheoliadau hyn yn disgrifio'r profion a'r tasgau y caiff ACCAC eu datblygu, eu gosod neu eu rhoi.
Mae'r rhain yn brofion a thasgau, drwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg a'r Saesneg, a fydd yn rhan o'r asesiad o gymhwysedd ym medrau sylfaenol llythrennedd a rhifedd ac ym medrau allweddol cyfathrebu, cymhwyso rhif a thechnoleg gwybodaeth.
